Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek

My Christmas gift to you is this incredible six-part series from The New York Times about the avalanche at Tunnel Creek. Even if you’re not a skier, the gorgeous, vivid writing will make you understand why those of us who love it are so passionate about it.

And hopefully, Santa’s Christmas gift to me, and to all skiers everywhere, is snow!

  1. Amy – I read this in the car – it was INCREDIBLE. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I cannot read the whole thing. Not so many years ago a dear colleague of mine – very accomplished mountaineer and skiier and graduate of the Colorado School of Mines – died in an avalanche in the Rockies. Each time I open the piece, I get about halfway through the first installment and start to cry. Powerful writing. And a powerful deadly experience that took a good soul from my life.
