I cannot read the whole thing. Not so many years ago a dear colleague of mine – very accomplished mountaineer and skiier and graduate of the Colorado School of Mines – died in an avalanche in the Rockies. Each time I open the piece, I get about halfway through the first installment and start to cry. Powerful writing. And a powerful deadly experience that took a good soul from my life.
