A quick lifting workout provides some holiday peace

I never thought I’d be one of those people grumbling about the holidays and the stress that often accompanies them. There are gifts to buy, cards to send, cookies to bake and things to decorate — what could be more fun? But there are also planes to board, relatives to please and pre-holiday deadlines to meet, and those have made me feel downright Scrooge-like today.

And since I can’t ski on the snow about to wallop the Washington metro area thanks to my bum ankle, I was even feeling miserly about the impending storm (not to be a smug former Colorado resident, but really? Do we ALL need to go to the grocery store at the same time?).

Then, in between two ill-timed doctor appointments today, before I frantically headed back home to squeeze in work I felt guilty for not doing while waiting for said doctor appointments, I got in one killer lifting workout. While listening to a playlist full of Christmas music. I could almost feel my blood pressure drop back down to a normal level after I’d finished, leaving me feeling Christmasy — and sore.

  1. I am so unbelievably jealous. I’ve been home with a sick kiddo for 5 days now, and am starting to get sick, haven’t gotten a good workout in and am cranky because tomorrow’s 8-miler with the girls might not happen if I feel any crappier than I do right now. I’m glad lifting helped, though I can’t imagine how a playlist of Christmas music helped. Seriously??
